The Sacred Hunt
The sacred hunt is one of my greatest passions to offer, and for reasons that go beyond what words can fully capture. A sacred hunt connects us to the web of life in one of the most visceral, immediate ways possible. It brings you into direct contact with yourself, with the animal, with the land, and with forces far greater than our ordinary daily experience.
When you step into a hunt, something primal awakens. You will learn how to attune to rhythms and instincts that modern life has trained you to ignore. Here, you inhabit your full self: spiritual and embodied, conscious and wild, all at once; an experience that most living in modernity are unable to feel. For most, this is a true threshold experience that brings profound reflection, deep presence, and lasting transformation. I have found that pairing this experience with coaching can provide substantial shifts that the body will not forget.
In the section that follows, I've done my best to describe what you might encounter and where my intentions lie with this offering.
What Happens:
This is a ceremonial process that unfolds over a period of time that is agreed upon between me and the client. The amount of preparation will vary, depending on the specific needs of the client. In general, the hunt can last anywhere from a 3-7 day experience, following the three-phase structure of transformation.
Severance (Preparation):
Pre-hunt coaching sessions to clarify intention and readiness
Ritual preparation and setting of sacred container
Learning tracking, stalking, and reading sign
Understanding hunting ethics and the animal's life
Building psychological and emotional capacity for what's coming
Nervous system preparation for intensity
Creating the mental and spiritual readiness to take life.
Threshold - The Hunt
The sacred hunt is one of humanity's oldest and most profound threshold experiences. It confronts you with the primal reality of being a predator, the weight of taking life, and the deep reciprocity at the heart of existence. This isn't sport. This isn't recreation. This is ceremony. This is initiation into a truth most modern humans spend their entire lives avoiding: you are fed by death, and your life is sustained by the lives of others.
Most of us consume meat without ever confronting what that means. We eat animals we've never seen, whose deaths we've never witnessed, whose bodies we've never touched. The sacred hunt ends that separation. It returns us to an ancient covenant where presence, feeling, and honoring become inseparable from the act of taking life.
We move into the field together at the planned time
Track and stalk with full awareness and presence
If the opportunity arises, a decision can be made to ethically harvest the animal
We perform ceremony to honor the animal and express gratitude
You participate fully in field dressing and processing the animal
Incorporation
This is a critical phase of the process that serves as an opportunity to be with, express and embody the experience. Whether or not we’re blessed with the good fortune of harvesting an animal, there will be plenty to work with.
Time is taken for reflections and meaning making from the time preparing and being in the woods.
We can prepare and cook the meat over open fire
An opportunity to share the meal in ceremony and community
We work with what arose: grief, power, reverence, complexity
Somatic practices help you integrate what your body experienced
You explore how this changes your relationship to consumption, nature, death, and life
We anchor the transformation into your ongoing life and invite the experience to support your ongoing process.
The Work Includes:
Tracking and stalking education
Understanding the animal and its habitat
Shot placement and humane killing practices
Field dressing, butchering, and meat processing
Ceremonial fire and ritual practices
Deep processing of the emotional and spiritual impact
Somatic integration of the visceral experience
Nature-based practices and attunement
What this Requires:
This is not for everyone. The sacred hunt demands:
Maturity and psychological readiness for the reality of taking a life
Respect and reverence for the animal and the process
Physical capability to participate in hunting, field work, and processing
Emotional capacity to hold complexity, grief, power, and responsibility
Commitment to the full ceremonial process from start to finish
Valid hunting license for the state and legal compliance
What Changes:
The sacred hunt doesn't just teach lessons…it initiates you. Clients report fundamental shifts in their relationship to:
Food and consumption: Knowing the true cost of nourishment and never forgetting what it took
Nature and wildness: No longer separate observers but participants in the web of life and death
Death and mortality: Understanding impermanence not as concept but as lived reality
Responsibility and power: Feeling the weight of being predator, not just consumer
Gratitude and reciprocity: Experiencing profound thankfulness for being fed by another's life
Ancestral connection: Reclaiming primal knowing that lives in your bones
Identity: Seeing yourself as animal, as part of nature's cycles, as capable of more than you knew
Presence: Learning to be fully here for moments that demand everything
You don't just learn about the hunt. You become someone who has looked life and death in the eye and acted with intention, presence, and reverence. The magic of it all comes into play when that experience is tied closely to your deeper needs, wants and goals and what that all means to you.
